In order to prevent online piracy UK Government is proposing a new bill to increase the prison sentence of Intruders from 2 to 10 years as according to them a tougher sentence would act as a "tougher deterrent" and an online infringement is same as an offline counterfeit and they both must come in par in order to stop the increasing piracy.
According to the proposal the criminal sanctions for copyright infringement available under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 (CDPA 1988) could be amended to bring both offline and online counterfeits in par.

What The Officials Had To Say-
“By toughening penalties for commercial-scale online offending we are offering greater protections to businesses and sending a clear message to deter criminals,” says Intellectual Property Minister Baroness Neville-Rolfe.
“This consultation is very welcome as we feel there is a clear anomaly in the way that online copyright infringement by criminal enterprises is treated by the justice system,” Eddy Leviten, Director General of the Alliance for Intellectual Property.
Implementation-
According to the proposal the main target are the large copyright infringement sites however no legislation would be taken upon the user according to the news we have got now further changes can take place. And casual file shares have not much to worry about.
