Netflix is coming to India in 2016

After several years of rumors and speculations Netflix has finally announced that it would be releasing in India by 2016. This is an amazing news for youngsters and regular Internet users as India has been lacking a good Internet video streaming service and Netflix would be all that we needed. However this could be a bad news for DTH operator's and small Internet video streaming services because Netflix can easily take there market share.

Netflix has around 62 million subscribers around the world who can have a large benefit over DTH users because they can watch any channel, video tv show they want. Netflix just charges you with a monthly charge and the rest of it is free. Thus in comparison to DTH services online web streaming services have an upper hand On demand video streaming services. And its affordable too a similar service launched in India named Hooq charges Rs199 per month.

Why is Netflix not releasing early in India-

According to speculations Netflix has avoided its steps to setup in India from so long mainly due to the low average Internet speed in India. As an online video streaming service it needs a stable and an average speed Internet speed to enjoy the stream.

According to there official website you need these speeds for streaming

3mbps - SD streaming
5mbps - HD streaming
25mbps - UHD streaming

However Indian broadband services except some do not provide Unlimited Data plans at the same static high speed which can thus effect Netflix's viewership. Thus in order Netflix have decided to launch in India by 2016 supplemented by 4g services launched by Reliance Jio in India.

In reply to this Big DTH companies like Tata sky and Dish Tv are focusing on there Smartphones apps for on demand video streaming services which till now haven't been that much of a success.
