Indian web market hasn't always come up to our expectations so we had to be satisfied with what they offered , but recently when I tried to open Flipkart and Myntra on the web browser of my smartphone here what i was greeted with .
So they redirected there mobile sites home page to a page which says "for a better experience download our app" . When I first saw it I though that they just might be promoting there mobile app but after the reading it through I came to know that they have suspended there mobile sites .
According to the sites developers using there mobile applications are more convenient and provide better results even at low speed connections and is more swift to use . Users are overall benefiting from it and they in fact a better experience out of it .According to them as the users are logged in all the time to the app it provides them better deals through it . Mobile usage has also been increasing in India as most of the teenagers have nothing to do but gag around with there smartphones messaging each other on social networking sites. But what about us the people who care about the internet.
Considering the explosive mobile internet usage which India is experiencing right, it is expected that by 2019, there would be 651 million smartphone users and mobile web users will increase 13 times in the next 4 years. These decisions have been taken after considering the mobile usage habits of Indians presently and in near future.
Flipkart have recently hired Puneet Soni from Google to head their products head and accelerate their mobile push. Reliable sources are telling that this decision to completely ditch their mobile websites was strongly suggested by Soni.
Although Flipkart and Myntra gets 60-70% of all their orders from mobile, there is still 30-40% of orders which originate from either desktop website or from mobile website, as not everyone is comfortable in installing mobile apps and tolerating the constant push-alerts and ads which these apps throw at their customers.
